Supporting the breeders of the next generation

"It's really important to recognise and encourage the talent of our young breeders and their showmanship skills," said Phil Halhead as he presented a personalised waistcoat to 9 year old Isabella Hartley - the winner of the young handler competition. In second place was Alastair Jackson.

A birthday win for Isabella
Isabella has competed since she was 6 and won the NWBB Under 12 handler competition two weeks previously..... a star in the making, she won her first handling competition on her first outing and has never looked back.

But having her 9th birthday on the same day made winning at the BBBC event even more special. Well done Isabella!!

Last year's winner takes reserve
16 year old Alastair Jackon is no stanger to the ring. Last year he won this competition before going on to win the Young Handler section at the Royal Highland Show. Currently at Agricultural College he plans to continue his interest with the breed and his father's Headlind herd at Biggar .

Following her lead is brother Thomas aged 6.
He was seen around the ring all morning close behind 'Dad' who also enjoyed the success with his heifer.
