Chelford a success for the breed and for Norbreck Genetics sires
There certainly was a buzz!! The rings were crammed for judging on the Friday and for the sale on Saturday which resulted in a mammoth 1,200 gns increase in average price on last year! The papers have been packed with strong coverage since the sale and it has attracted several new members to the Belgian Blue society since the sale closed. A great sign as the society enters its second 25 years.
It was certainly a good sale for those with Norbreck Genetics progeny – and not just Dafydd D’Ochain. There were successes for Blue Stone Union Jack and Empire D’Ochain. The Empire x Brookfield Rhanne ( Royal show champion 2003) embryo's sold for £350 each – they are the first embryos to sell at auction from EMPIRE D'OCHAIN who is proving to be very fertile for Embryo Transfer work !!
Dafydd takes the top two spots with the bulls….
Progeny of Dafydd D’Ochain took first and second places in the bull classes at Chelford last week – and the Supreme Champion was Springfield Asher a January 05 Dafydd son who also won the Calf show at Chelford last year. Out of the Inexes sired Springfield Pepsi, Asher went on to sell for 4,000 gns and travelled to Messers Garside from Huddersfield.
Tamhorn Angus stood second to the champion - this son of Dafydd sold for 4,500gns. Another Dafydd D’Ochain entry from D & J Wyllie was Tamhorn Admiral selling for 3,750gns he is full brother to the noted Tamhorn Anastasia sold last year for 8,700gns
Blue Stone Union Jack son takes third place. Mark and Elaine Hartley took third place with their son of Blue Stone Union Jack (born naturally) and later sold him for 5,500gns to Messers Beal in Malton, North Yorkshire. Pendle Admergill – another Union Jack son, for 3,900gns.
…. Dafydd D’Ochain also wins with the heifers!

Croftends Bonnie (Lot 98) highest priced heifer 8500 guineas
Winning the heifer class was Croftends Bonnie - a sweet January 06 born heifer from J E Bellas & Son. Out of Phillipper sired Lismannan Sally and sired by Dafydd, she is one of three full sisters all born in January 2006 and was shown with her sisters last year with great success. Croftends Bonnie sold at here for 8,500gns to Anita Padfield from Great Yarmouth.
YOU CAN SEE HER FULL SISTERS AT BEEF EXPO IN SKIPTON IN MAY.
